Pind Daan is a ritual done to help achieve Mukti, which means freedom from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. It is performed to help the souls of ancestors find peace and move on from a place like purgatory. Doing this ritual at special places and on certain days is believed to help the souls reach their final, peaceful home. The goal is to keep souls already in heaven from falling to a lower place and to help those suffering below to rise to a better place.
Pind Daan at Gaya Ji is considered very important because it is believed that the souls of the dead come to Gaya Ji, waiting for their family to offer them food so they can find peace. That’s why it is a necessary ritual for every Hindu to perform Shradh Karma at Gaya for their departed ancestors.
Once the ritual is done properly, it is believed that the souls are freed and they bless the person and their family with peace, prosperity, and wealth.
According to the scriptures, performing Pind Daan at Gaya at least once in a lifetime is a must. This ritual shows our faith and respect for our ancestors.
One day, everyone has to leave this world—that’s the natural rule of life. But we also have a duty towards our ancestors, because it is through them that we got this life.
Anyone who wants to honor their deceased ancestors can perform Pind Daan. It is usually done by family members, especially the eldest son or a male relative, to fulfill their duty and respect their family traditions.
During Pind Daan, people usually offer rice balls (called pinds), water, milk, sesame seeds, fruits, and other food items. These offerings are believed to feed and please the souls of the departed. It is also considered good to do charity and give donations to the poor during this ritual.
